The Janet Maguire Collection consists of 139 photographs in an album. The photographs were taken by B. B. Dobbs, a professional photographer in Nome, Alaska, in the early 1900's. The photographs were taken in northwestern Alaska including the Seward Peninsula, Nome, Teller, and Cape Prince of Wales. Other images include gold mining camps and activities, early reindeer herding, Revenue Cutter ships, town and village scenes, and individual and group portraits of Inupiaq people. The album illustrates something of the daily lives of both the indigenous people and early white settlers in the Seward Peninsula region.
